AU-2014 Drives for the First Time!

(March 30, 2014)

AU-2014 took its first steps today as AUFSAE engineers put the finishing touches on the car they have worked so hard to build over the past six months. Utilizing a light-weight ten inch wheel design, and all-new carbon fiber monocoque, AU-2014 embodies what Auburn Engineering stands for as this new competitor pushes the boundaries of vehicle design. The new machine will begin testing this week at the Auburn University Regional Airport as the team prepares to take on the one of the world’s toughest FSAE competitions in Brooklyn, Michigan this May.

The team now enters testing season and will be working each day to prepare the car to tackle both static and dynamic events. Over the next three weeks the team will develop AU-2014 into a reliable race-ready machine, and will be extracting its potential through optimizing the vehicle and drivers for each dynamic event.

The team looks forward to presenting AU-2014 to the public at the 2014 Car Release Ceremony on Saturday, May 10th. Stay posted for invitations including details on the event!

Thank you for your support! We are greatful for the opportunity to build the most promising Auburn Formula SAE machine to date. The team cannot wait to represent Auburn University at FSAE Michigan, FSAE Lincoln, and Formula Student Germany this summer!

National Instruments and Auburn FSAE Form Technical Partnership!

(February 12, 2014)

The Auburn Formula SAE Racing Team (AUFSAE), part of War Eagle Motorsports under the banner of Auburn University’s Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, has continued its strategic growth through a newly formed multi-year relationship with National Instruments (NI), an industry leader in automated test, measurement, and control systems.

“This partnership is a natural fit as AUFSAE’s global initiatives align directly with National Instruments’ diverse and widespread customer base in multiple application areas throughout the world. National Instruments has a passion for educational projects such as Formula SAE.”

Andrew Rains AUFSAE Team Captain

National Instrument’s support of Auburn University will allow the team to implement new projects utilizing NI’s modular control and measurement hardware such as the CompactRIO and myRIO with their graphical system design software, LabVIEW. Through this multi-year technical partnership, the team will work with NI engineers to develop systems for automated dynamometer control, on-board data acquisition, and engine control applications. National Instruments’ branding will be visible on AU-2014, Auburn’s 2014 Formula SAE racecar, as well as on auracing.org to signify the synergistic relationship formed between these two partners.

AUFSAE team engineers are currently utilizing the National Instruments compactRio for thermocouple data acquisition.

About Auburn Formula SAE:

AUFSAE designs, builds, and races an open-wheel formula racecar each year in the SAE sanctioned Formula SAE series against other Universities from all corners of the globe. The intense engineering challenge presented by building a high performance racecar, along with the short time frame to complete the car, produces an environment that demands hard-work, communication, and engineering excellence. The application of engineering theory, fabrication, testing, and competing, along with a winning Auburn attitude give AUFSAE an advantage over the competition! AUFSAE seeks to build relationships within the University, as well as with firms looking to support the team and its members. After finishing 2nd overall at Formula SAE Lincoln in June of 2013, AUFSAE is set to be even more competitive during the 2014 racing season! Look for Auburn Formula SAE to compete in both Formula SAE Michigan, and Lincoln, followed by a trip to Hockenheim, Germany in July to participate in the extremely competitive Formula Student Germany event!

AUFSAE in Jordan-Hare Stadium

The Auburn University Athletic Department has officially invited AUFSAE to be commemorated on the field during the Auburn vs. Georgia game on Saturday, November 16th!
